Our Key Malaria Achievements in Myanmar 24.04.2020

On this World Malaria Day, marked each year on 25th April, we would like to highlight our continued commitment and the key results we delivered to date towards the elimination of malaria in Myanmar.

UNOPS is a Principal Recipient of the Global Fund and is working with the Government of Myanmar to accelerate the end of the HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria epidemics in the country. Under the Global Fund, UNOPS is providing grants to the Government, national and international NGOs and UN Agencies. The grants from the Global Fund have allowed those most in need to better access prevention, care and treatment for HIV, TB and malaria.

From 2011 to 2019, the malaria grants have made it possible to:

  • 1.7 million people treated for malaria
  • 15.2 million malaria tests performed (RDT and Slides)
  • 14.3 million Long Lasting Insecticide-treated nets to the at risk population

In 2019 only, the grant contributed the following results;

  • 37,000+ people treated for malaria
  • 3.2 million malaria tests performed (RDT and Slides)
  • Nearly 6 million Long Lasting Insecticide-treated nets to the at risk population

The Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS) has been assisted by UNOPS in managing $358 million worth of Global Fund grants over a seven-year period (2011–2017). UNOPS is assisting MOHS in managing $251 million worth of the Global Fund grants for the continuation of the Global Fund programme implementation in Myanmar over a three-year period (2018-2020).
