TB grant implementation has shown significant progress with two out of six "Top 10 indicators" exceeding the Year 2 annual targets. In all, 147,622 TB patients were notified and treated in Year 2 - of which 42,085 were new smear positive - as a result of improved case finding, accelerated by the training of Basic Heath staff (BHS) and the increased involvement of partners implementing Public-Public-Mix. Similarly, 36,291 new smear positive TB patients were successfully treated during Year 2, with the treatment success rate (TSR) of 85.6 per cent. Regarding health system strengthening, 2,757 Basic Health Staff (BHS) were trained in the early finding of suspected TB cases and referral for diagnosis and treatment.

While these indicators show significant progress in ensuring early case detection, diagnosis and case holding, the National TB Prevalence Survey (2009 - 2010) revealed a higher TB burden than previously estimated, and a greater need to further strengthen TB prevention and control efforts.

In addition, 6,271 registered TB patients (aged 15 years and above) were tested for HIV at TB/HIV collaborative sites. Regarding the management of drug resistant TB, 442 MDR-TB patients were enrolled for treatment in Year 2. NTP has also continuously monitored and gathered data from border townships to keep track of the importation of additional cases and MDR cases in these areas.
