The cumulative results for 2014 are shown as a percentage of the annual target. LLINs distributed and ITNs treated indicators are funded by GFATM only, while the others are funded by “GFATM and other donors”.
The malaria grant has supported the expansion of the national malaria control services to 284 townships by early 2015. In 2014, scale-up in distribution of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) in high and moderate risk villages was achieved, with 618,893 LLINs distributed (nearly 100% of target). The number of malaria cases treated achieved the target, with 135,727 confirmed malaria cases treated with Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT) and Chloroquine (CQ). To enhance laboratory quality assurance, competency examination of 103 senior microscopists was completed in five batches.
Over last two years, there has been a remarkable drop in the number of malaria cases, with reports from the national programme and its partners in the response confirming the declining disease burden. The Government plans to develop a national strategy for the elimination of falciparum malaria by 2030.
