Malaria Programmatic Achievements against Targets in 2013

The cumulative results for 2013 are shown as a percentage of the annual target. LLINs distributed and ITNs treated indicators are funded by GFATM only, while the others are funded by “GFATM and other donors”.

Provision of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs) in high and moderate risk villages continued in 2013, with 487,479 LLINs distributed (120% of target). Mass campaigns for bed net treatment resulted in 1.2 million (101% of target) nets being treated.

Malaria control services were further strengthened with the empowerment of 4,156 (88% of target) village health volunteers through trainings both in prevention and treatment seeking and in prevention and case management of malaria. The number of malaria cases treated was less than planned, at 339,756 (53% of target) confirmed malaria cases treated with Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACTs). Low achievements against malaria treatment targets are attributed to a change in the disease epidemiology and good control measures.
