Malaria Programme Achievements in 2016

The cumulative results for Year 6 (NFM) are shown as a percentage of the annual target. The LLINs-distributed indicator is funded by GFATM only, while the others are funded by GFATM-Multiple Grant.

The malaria grant has supported distribution of 2,004,944 (102% of target) long-lasting insecticidal bednets (LLINs) in 2016.

Over the year, parasitological testing was conducted on 709,823 suspected malaria cases in public health facilities, with all suspected malaria cases (100%) presenting to public health facilities receiving a parasitological test.

Furthermore, 26,354 (79%) of 33,422 confirmed malaria cases were treated according to the national treatment guidelines at public health facilities.

Greater LLIN coverage has contributed to the decrease in the number of malaria cases, as has the service provided by village health volunteers, and more active case detection among mobile and migrant populations. In total, 6,712 village health volunteers were trained during 2016.

This year, 1,305 (93%) health facilities reported no stockout of essential malaria drugs and commodities (artemisinin-based combination therapy, chloroquine, primaquine and rapid diagnostic tests).
