The cumulative results in each period (P1-P4) are shown against the annual targets in percentages. TB/HIV (TB/HIV Collaborative Sites) indicator is funded by "GFATM and other donors" while the rest are funded by the Global Fund only.
TB grant implementation has shown significant progress with four out of six "Top 10 indicators" exceeding the Year 1 annual targets. In all, 142,303 TB patients were notified in Year 1- of which 42, 085 were new smear positive- as a result of improved case finding, accelerated by the training of Basic Heath staff (BHS) and the increased involvement of partners implementing Public-Public-Mix. Similarly, 36,000 news smear positive TB patients were successfully treated during Year 1, or a treatment success rate (TSR) of 85.5 per cent, regarding health system strengthening, 3,061 BHS were trained in the early finding of suspected TB cases and referral for diagnosis and treatment.
While these indicators show significant progress in ensuring early case detection, diagnosis and case holding, the National TB Prevalence Survey revealed a higher TB burden than previously estimated, and a greater need to further strengthen TB prevention and control efforts.
In addition, 7,637 registered TB patients (aged 15 years and above) were tested for HIV at TB/HIV collaborative sites-more than one and a half times the planned target for Year 1. Fifty laboratory-confirmed MDR-TB patients were enrolled for treatment as a targeted in Year 1. NTP has also continuously monitored and gathered data from border townships to keep track of the importation of additional cases and MDR cases in these areas.
