State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi expressed thanks to the people for their understanding of the incumbent government, pledging that the one-year-old administration would continue to march on the road to establishing a federal union with eternal peace and introducing a new motto: “Together with the people”.
In a speech aired on state television last night to commemorate the first year of her National League for Democracy (NLD) in office, the State Counsellor said spending on healthcare was increased, and guaranteed that the effort was not fruitless. In a one-year period, the development of public health care is improving rapidly, to the extent that the world acknowledged Myanmar’s progress. Significant gains have been made in eradicating tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV/AIDS. The accomplishment in healthcare earned the praise of the international organization the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, which helps in the fight to eradicate the three major diseases.
The speech is also published in state newspaper – The Global New Light of Myanmar – today.
